Parties' Nominations for SAC membership

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research is seeking nominations for two seats on its Science Advisory Committee (SAC) to be filled at the 29th meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2021. The SAC emphasizes the need for candidates with international recognition in global change science in the Americas, specifically calling for geographic, gender, and ethnic balance, with a particular focus on underrepresented regions such as Central America, the Caribbean, and the tropical Andes. Desired expertise includes social sciences, indigenous knowledge, climate change adaptation and mitigation, planetary health, and informatics.

• Two vacancies exist for the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) as terms expire in June 2021; one vacancy is for a new member and one is for Dr. Mariana Meerhoff Scaffo, who is eligible for re-election.
• The SAC identifies Central America, the Caribbean, and the tropical Andes as geographic regions that are currently underrepresented within the committee.
• Nominees are expected to possess high academic excellence, a doctorate or equivalent, an extensive publication record, and experience managing international scientific projects relevant to the IAI.
• The SAC specifically recommends seeking expertise in several key areas to complement current membership: social sciences (including economy, education, and urbanism), indigenous and traditional knowledge, climate change adaptation and mitigation, planetary health (including social-ecological systems), and informatics (including big data and artificial intelligence).
