A notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announcing a new deadline of July 17, 2020, for nominating members to the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) ahead of the CoP-28 meeting on August 19, 2020.

• The deadline for submitting nominations for qualified members of the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) has been set for July 17, 2020, following the postponement of the CoP-28 meeting to August 19, 2020.
• The SPAC is composed of five members elected by the Conference of the Parties (CoP). Its primary purpose is to provide advice to the CoP and IAI Directorates regarding the design and application of science in decision-making and policy formulation.
• As of June 2020, the terms of the five current SPAC members are ending. These members include Brigitte Baptiste (President), Walter Baethgen, Javier Gracia-Garza, Maria Netto Schneider, and Evelia Rivera Arriaga.
• Nominees for the SPAC must possess extensive science-policy experience, including expertise in global change (specifically climate change), international commissions, and the cultural diversity of the Americas. They should be capable of linking biodiversity and ecosystem services governance with global change and promoting evidence-based policy frameworks such as nature-based solutions or ecosystem-based adaptation.
• Nomination rules specify that each Party may propose no more than one candidate, while the SPAC must submit between two and four nominations. All candidates must provide a brief curriculum vitae.
