This notification from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) announces a new deadline of 17 July 2020 for submitting nominations for representatives to the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC), following the postponement of the CoP-28 meeting to 19 August 2020.

• The deadline for submitting nominations for qualified representatives to the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) has been set for 17 July 2020. This change follows the postponement of the CoP-28 meeting, which is now scheduled for 19 August 2020 and will be conducted via video conferencing.
• The SPAC is composed of five members elected by the Conference of the Parties (CoP). Its primary purpose is to provide advice to the CoP and the IAI Directorate regarding the design and use of science for decision-making and policy.
• As of June 2020, the terms of the five current SPAC members are concluding. These members are Brigitte Baptiste (Chair), Walter Baethgen, Javier Gracia-Garza, Maria Netto Schneider, and Evelia Rivera Arriaga. Current members remain eligible for appointment if nominated by a Party or the SPAC.
• Nomination requirements specify that each Party may submit up to one candidate, while the SPAC must submit between two and four nominations. All nominees must provide a curriculum vitae. Candidates are expected to possess expertise in science policy, global change (particularly climate change), and the ability to communicate scientific information for policy use, with a specific focus on the Americas.
• Members of the SPAC are prohibited from presenting proposals to any IAI call in any capacity, including as a consultant, advisor, or Principal Investigator. This restriction remains in effect for six months after their participation in the committee ends.
