• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) consists of ten members elected by the Conference of the Parties for three-year terms, with a maximum of one re-election. The composition includes six members nominated by the Parties, three nominated by the SAC itself, and one nominated by the Institute's Associates.
• The SAC is responsible for formulating recommendations on the Institute's Scientific Agenda, long-term plans, and annual programs, as well as managing the peer review system, adopting its own regulations, creating specific scientific committees, and evaluating the Institute's scientific results.
• Specific vacancies occurred in June 2020 as Dr. Tereza Cavazos (Mexico) and Dr. Carlos Alfredo Joly (Brazil) reached the end of their terms as Party-nominated members, and Dr. Antonio Magalhaes (Brazil) and Dr. Michelle Grunauer (Ecuador) reached the end of their terms as SAC-nominated members. Additionally, Dr. Moacyr Araujo (Brazil), the Associate-nominated member, resigned in March 2020.
• Candidates for the SAC must possess a doctorate or equivalent experience, a high level of academic and research excellence, and experience in interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary science. They are expected to be familiar with the social, economic, political, and ecological realities of the Americas and the scientific priorities of various countries.
