Borrador del Plan Estratégico del IAI

This document is a draft of the Strategic Plan for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), presented as a notification to member Parties on November 27, 2018. The plan outlines a long-term vision for 2019–2044, aiming to bridge the gap between science and policy to foster a sustainable American continent through interdisciplinary research, capacity building, and open data.

• The IAI's Strategic Plan establishes a long-term horizon from 2019 to 2044, with specific actions organized into shorter cycles of three to six years to align with the Executive Director's term and adapt to the evolving needs of member Parties.
• The organization's vision is to enable a sustainable, inclusive, and well-informed American continent that collectively addresses global change through flexible policies based on scientific information.
• The Strategic Plan is structured around three primary themes: meeting the needs of member Parties regarding global environmental change, advancing science for the sustainability of the Americas, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the IAI itself.
• The IAI identifies several critical scientific priority areas for the region, including poverty and equality, food security, water security, climate action, energy security, health and wellbeing, and biodiversity and ecosystem services.
• The IAI emphasizes the use of 'SMART' (Specific, Measurable, Agreed, Realistic, and Timely) actions and adheres to guiding principles such as transdisciplinarity, the inclusion of underrepresented groups (including indigenous peoples, poor rural populations, youth, and women), and the provision of open science and data.
• To ensure its own sustainability, the IAI aims to increase its visibility, attract new member Parties—specifically targeting the Caribbean islands—and diversify its funding sources beyond the NSF.
