Conferencia de las Partes (CoP) del IAI Vigésima quinta reunión

This document is a compilation of decisions and action lists from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Conference of the Parties (CoP), covering meetings from the 4th CoP in 1997 through the 25th CoP in June 2017. It records the governance, financial approvals, and scientific committee appointments of the institute over two decades.

• At the 25th CoP in June 2017, the IAI directed its Executive Directorate to establish a policy and principles for open data, referencing the Data Policy approved by the 2nd CoP.
• The 25th CoP mandated the creation of a long-term communication strategy and plan, as well as a long-term financing strategy, both to be presented at the subsequent CoP.
• The IAI established a Tripartite Structure Implementation Commission, which was renewed annually across several sessions (including the 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th CoPs). As of the 25th CoP, its members included Argentina, Brasil, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador (Vice President), United States (President), and Uruguay.
• During the 24th CoP in 2016, the IAI decided to restart the Executive Director selection process that had begun in 2015 due to procedural errors.
• The 21st CoP in 2013 approved the creation of a Science-Policy Liaison Advisory Committee to advise the CoP and IAI Directorates on the design and application of science in policy-making and decision-making.
• At the 22nd CoP in 2014, the IAI issued a statement for the UNFCCC COP-20 in Peru, asserting that climate change adaptation is as important as mitigation for Latin America and should be integrated into international decision-making using science and technology.
• The 6th CoP in 1999 approved an amendment to Article XIII, Section 1 of the IAI Creation Agreement, setting the minimum annual voluntary contribution at US$ 5,000, with contributions made in multiples of US$ 1,000.
• The IAI has consistently utilized two primary advisory bodies for its operations: the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Liaison Advisory Committee (SPAC), with members elected by consensus during CoP sessions.
• The 18th CoP in 2011 supported the creation of a virtual Water Security Center formed by the University of Arizona and the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
