DECLARACION DE MONTEVIDEO

The Declaration of Montevideo, signed between May 12 and 14, 1992, establishes the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) as an international instrument to promote scientific and economic research cooperation on global change across the Americas.

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) was created as a regional network of research centers to coordinate scientific and economic research regarding the causes, extent, and consequences of global change in the Americas, aiming to link science with policy processes.
• The IAI's research programs and specialized facilities, including affiliated and associated research institutions, are intended to be driven primarily by scientific interest.
• An Organizing Committee, composed of designated representatives from signatory states and supported by an administrative structure, was established to prepare the Institute for operation following the Agreement's entry into force and until the first Conference of the Parties.
