Minutes of EC-XXXIII

The Minutes of EC-XXXIII document the 33rd Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Executive Council held on June 26, 2012, in Arlington, VA, USA. • The IAI's Second Collaborative Research Network (CRNII), which ended in August 2012, involved 223 investigators from 126 institutions across 18 countries. The program received USD 11.6 million in funding from the US National Science Foundation (NSF) and leveraged an additional USD 32.1 million, resulting in 300 peer-reviewed journal articles and 78 books or book chapters.
• The Executive Council accepted eight projects for funding under the Third Round of the Collaborative Research Network Program (CRN3), with a total disbursement of US$ 10.5 million between 2012 and 2018. These projects cover topics such as nitrogen cycling in Latin America, water supplies in Andean Basins, and marine ecosystems around South America.
• The IAI launched a new Interdisciplinary Training Program in September 2011 with US$ 820,000 in funding from the US NSF. This program includes five Training Institutes and Colloquia scheduled from 2011 to 2014, focusing on areas such as climate and public health, water resource management, and governance.
• The Small Grant projects for the Human Dimensions (SGP-HD), which closed in August 2011, involved 43 investigators across 10 countries. The program was funded by US$ 1,390,000 from the US NSF and raised US$ 4,500,000 in complementary funding, producing 25 peer-reviewed journal articles and 6 books or book chapters.
