Minutes from the 32nd Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Executive Council, held June 16-17, 2011, in Asunción, Paraguay. This follows a training program on urban responses to climate change and ECLAC's work on the economic value of climate change impacts, which suggests Latin America could lose 1% of its gross product if mitigation and adaptation goals are not met.
• The IAI Directorate submitted a proposal for CRN3 to the National Science Foundation (NSF). The EC and Directorate discussed the need for better integration of human dimensions in future calls for proposals, noting that previous efforts in CRN2 were largely unsuccessful, often resulting in a "token social scientist" rather than true integration.
• The EC approved the charter for the Financial and Administrative Committee (FAC), with current membership consisting of Brazil, Canada, the US, and the IAI Financial and Administrative Director as an ex-officio member.
• To increase institutional visibility, the EC recommended that the IAI organize a side event at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (CoP), with Colombia offering to assist in coordinating with the UNFCCC.
