Informe resumido de las actividades de la Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI durante el período entre sesiones 2022-2023

This report details the activities and achievements of the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) during the 2022-2023 intersessional period. The document outlines progress in science-policy interfaces, capacity building, strategic partnerships, and the implementation of the IAI Strategic Plan, focusing on climate change, environmental health, and scientific diplomacy across the Americas.

• The IAI established a Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) committee in collaboration with the SAC, SPAC, and the Belmont Forum. This committee developed an implementation plan for the GEDI policy, which now requires an EDI plan for all grant applications and provides EDI training for STeP fellows.
• The IAI implemented a training program on the nexus of Climate, Environment, and Health, featuring a virtual course titled "Curso de Respuesta al Clima y la Salud para América Latina" with 25 transdisciplinary teams from 14 countries and over 50 government representatives. This was followed by an in-person workshop in San Martín de los Andes from March 13 to 17, 2023, attended by nearly 100 experts from 20 countries.
• The Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) Fellowship program expanded significantly, growing from 17 fellows from 4 countries in its first year to 64 fellows from 13 countries. The program provides training in communication, scientific diplomacy, and leadership to early-to-mid career scientists and policymakers.
• The IAI launched the Science Diplomacy Center (SDC) for the Americas in late 2022 to serve as a regional reference hub for scientific diplomacy. The SDC is supported by an advisory board of 11 professionals, including representatives from Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, and the United States.
• The IAI is managing several strategic research and capacity projects, including the 'Sistema de Información sobre Sequías para el Sur de Sudamérica' (SISSA) for Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay, and the 'Americas Science Diplomacy Initiative' (ADSI) led by the University of São Paulo.
• The IAI strengthened its collaboration with the Belmont Forum through Collaborative Research Actions (CRAs), including projects on 'Paths to Sustainability' (supporting researchers in Ecuador, Canada, Colombia, and Mexico) and 'Migration and Mobility' (funding projects in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile).
• The IAI published its first compendium on climate change impacts in Latin America and the Caribbean, which consists of 12 opinion pieces written by STeP fellows and researchers and published in major regional newspapers.
