Report of the Gender and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee

This report details the establishment and initial activities of the Gender and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Advisory Committee of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), following a series of decisions by the Conference of the Parties between 2020 and 2022.

• The Conference of the Parties approved the Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy for IAI Scientific Projects and Capacity Building Activities during its 30th meeting in 2022, subsequently inviting the establishment of a GEDI Committee to implement the policy.
• The GEDI Advisory Committee consists of members from the Belmont Forum, SAC and SPAC, and national representatives from Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, and the United States.
• Between November 7, 2022, and May 8, 2023, the Committee met six times to review the GEDI Policy and create a draft implementation plan based on scientific literature, best practices, and regional policies. This plan is intended for annual review and revision.
• The document proposes draft decisions for the Conference of the Parties, including the creation of an Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Advisory Committee (IP&LC-AC) to provide recommendations on the IAI Strategic Plan, annual program, and Scientific Agenda to ensure equitable participation.
