Report of the Gender and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee

The Gender and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee, composed of representatives from several American nations and scientific bodies, has developed a draft implementation plan for the IAI's Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy. The report recommends the adoption of draft decisions to formalize the committee's monitoring role and to establish a new Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Advisory Committee to ensure equitable participation in the Institute's scientific and strategic planning.

• The Gender and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Committee consists of members from the Belmont Forum, SAC and SPAC, and national representatives from Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, and the United States.
• The Committee met six times between November 2022 and May 2023 to review the Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy for IAI Scientific Projects and Capacity Building Activities and create a draft implementation plan based on scientific literature, best practices, and regional policies.
• The report proposes a draft decision for the Conference of the Parties to instruct the IAI Directorate to create an Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Advisory Committee (IP&LC-AC). This new committee would provide recommendations on the annual program, IAI Strategic Plan, and Scientific Agenda to facilitate the contributions and equitable participation of local communities and Indigenous Peoples.
