Informe interno sobre la Evaluación Regional del IAI

This internal report describes the design and implementation of the IAI Regional Assessment (ER-IAI), a mechanism intended to bridge the gap between scientific production and policy-making regarding global environmental change in the Americas. The ER-IAI employs a co-production model to identify the specific information needs of government decision-makers to guide the IAI's research funding and capacity-building priorities.

• The IAI Regional Assessment (ER-IAI) is designed as a 'boundary spanning' activity to foster iterativity between science funders and decision-makers to generate usable knowledge.
• The ER-IAI adopts a co-production model of science-policy interaction, which is identified as having the highest potential for producing policy-relevant knowledge in the Global South, particularly in Latin America, compared to linear 'push' or 'pull' models.
• The implementation of the ER-IAI follows a flexible, iterative seven-stage methodological approach: 1) scoping workshops, 2) information sessions, 3) survey distribution, 4) follow-up interviews, 5) sub-regional exchange sessions, 6) policy analysis, and 7) information needs mapping.
• As of April 2022, the first two stages of the ER-IAI were complete, and the third stage (survey distribution) was concluding, with 14 Parties having completed the survey at the time of the report.
• The ER-IAI survey collects data on priority work areas, types of decisions made by institutions, the use of scientific information in policy-making, and cross-border collaborations related to global environmental change.
• The ultimate goal of the ER-IAI is to use its results to guide IAI's science funding priorities and capacity-building activities, and to facilitate collaboration between Parties with similar needs.
