Informe resumido de actividades de la Dirección Ejecutiva del IAI durante el período entre sesiones 2020-2021

The IAI Executive Directorate reported progress in its strategic plan during 2020-2021 despite COVID-19 challenges. Key achievements include the launch of the Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellowship program, the development of a revised scientific agenda incorporating feedback from Canada, Argentina, and Colombia, and the execution of transdisciplinary projects on climate-driven vector-borne diseases in Jamaica and Saint Lucia. The IAI also expanded its partnerships with the Belmont Forum, Wellcome Trust, and Mitacs Canada, while contributing to the IPCC's chapter on Central and South America.

• The IAI revised its scientific agenda to better reflect transdisciplinary research and human systems, incorporating specific feedback from Canada, Argentina, and Colombia.
• The IAI is executing two transdisciplinary projects in Jamaica and Saint Lucia funded by the Inter-American Development Bank via the University of the West Indies (2020-2021). These projects focus on climate-driven epidemic early warning systems for arboviral diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika, while addressing gender inequalities in health outcomes.
• The Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellowship program was launched in 2020 to foster scientific diplomacy and communication in Latin America and the Caribbean. The program has been implemented in two countries, with interest expressed by eight Parties and one non-Party state.
• The IAI expanded its strategic partnerships and funding sources, including a new collaboration with the Wellcome Trust for modeling climate-sensitive infectious diseases and a partnership with Mitacs Canada for the STeP program.
• The IAI contributed to global climate assessments and regional policy efforts, acting as a contributing author for the IPCC chapter on Central and South America (WGIIAR6) and organizing a virtual workshop on drought policy planning for South American countries including Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
• To promote open science and combat academic fraud, the IAI created a database of academic articles from its projects and joined an Interacademy Partnership initiative to fight predatory journals and conferences in the Americas.
