Recomendaciones de las Partes, del SAC y SPAC sobre las revisiones de la Agenda Científica del IAI

This briefing document presents the revised Scientific Agenda of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) for adoption by the Conference of the Parties (CoP) at its 29th meeting. The agenda defines the institute's research priorities, strategic areas, and foundational principles to address Global Environmental Change (GEC) across the Americas.

• The IAI's Scientific Agenda is designed to be a dynamic document that evolves to reflect scientific importance across biogeographic areas and integrates scientific, economic, and sociological research based on regional themes determined by the Conference of the Parties.
• The IAI identifies six strategic areas where science should impact regional sustainability: poverty and inequality reduction; food, water, and energy security; climate change adaptation and mitigation; human health and well-being; biodiversity and ecosystem conservation and restoration; and clean air, water, and land.
• The Scientific Agenda is organized into four broad and interrelated research themes: human dimensions of GEC; climate and climate variability; ecosystems, biodiversity, land use/cover, and water resources; and GEC modulations in the composition of the atmosphere, oceans, and fresh waters.
• The IAI operates under foundational principles including transdisciplinary science, inclusive and participatory design, solution-based innovative science, multi-scale analysis, open data, scientific outreach, alignment with environmental governance frameworks, and the strengthening of the science-policy interface.
• The revised Scientific Agenda was developed following a process where Argentina, Canada, Colombia, the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) submitted reviews and suggestions.
• The Scientific Agenda provides a general direction for scientific programs, while the IAI Strategic Plan serves as the specific implementation mechanism and is reviewed every 3 to 6 years.
