Access to official IAI documents (Decision XXV/22)

This report from the IAI Directorate, prepared for the twenty-seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties in Brasilia, Brazil, details global outreach and cooperation activities conducted during the 2018-2019 intersessional period. It outlines partnerships with international bodies such as IPBES, UNOSSC, and the GCF to enhance the science-policy interface and facilitate the dissemination of scientific knowledge for national and international policy implementation.

• The IAI Directorate established a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Intergovernmental Panel on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) in 2018 to support research, capacity-building, and the provision of scientific analyses for decision-makers regarding biodiversity and global change.
• The IAI collaborated with the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the UNFCCC to host a workshop in Montevideo, Uruguay, on 20 August 2018, focusing on South-South Cooperation for Climate and Sustainable Development Progress. This effort included dialogues with municipal officials from Sao Paulo, Santiago, and Buenos Aires regarding global change challenges in urban areas.
• The IAI is seeking to become a Readiness Delivery Partner in Latin America through consultations with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Secretariat, which would provide resources to strengthen institutional capacities of UNFCCC National Designated Authorities and assist countries with adaptation planning.
• The IAI joined the Steering Committee of the Belmont Forum in October 2018 to gain a voice in global change research funding and to encourage national funding agencies in the Americas to establish a flexible funding mechanism.
• The IAI issued a notification to Parties to join a Food Security and Climate Change Collaborative Research Action (CRA) proposal from France's Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR), receiving Expressions of Interest from Honduras, Guatemala, Ecuador, Chile, and Brazil.
• The IAI is exploring a partnership with the American Chemical Society (ACS) International to expand the dissemination of IAI mission and capacity-building resources, specifically targeting the strengthening of ACS chapters in the Caribbean and Latin America.
• The IAI was introduced as a potential regional partner for a new initiative by Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) titled "Climate Change and climate related natural risks," which aims to strengthen cross-continental cooperation on climate change research and stakeholder dialogues in South America.
