Informe de la comisión ad hoc sobre la Decisión XXVI/26: Plan Estratégico del IAI

The IAI Strategic Plan (2019–2044) establishes a 25-year roadmap to bridge the gap between science and policy in the Americas. It is organized into three themes: meeting the needs of member states regarding global environmental change, advancing science for regional sustainability, and ensuring the IAI's own organizational sustainability. The plan emphasizes transdisciplinary research, open data, and the inclusion of underrepresented groups to inform climate adaptation and mitigation policies.

• The IAI has established a long-term planning horizon of 25 years (2019–2044) for its goals and objectives, while specific actions are designed for shorter cycles of 3 to 6 years to align with the Executive Director's mandate and allow for dynamic adjustments.
• The Strategic Plan is structured around three central themes: satisfying the needs of member states to address global environmental change, developing science for the sustainability of the Americas, and ensuring the institutional sustainability of the IAI.
• Under the 'Science for Sustainability' theme, the IAI identifies eight priority areas for research and policy impact: poverty and equality, food security, water security, energy security, climate action, human health and wellbeing, biological diversity and ecosystem services, and clean air, water, and soil.
• The IAI aims to implement a transdisciplinary approach to research, ensuring that end-users and those affected by global change are included from the design phase, with a specific focus on including indigenous peoples, poor rural populations, youth, women, and people with disabilities.
• The organization commits to the principles of open science and open data, requiring that all IAI-sponsored research follow these policies and that literature be made freely available or deposited in public repositories within 12 months of publication.
• To ensure financial sustainability, the IAI intends to establish an endowment fund with a target of 100 million US dollars over ten years and seeks to obtain tax-exempt charitable status in the United States by the end of 2020.
