Artículo XI Asociados del Instituto del Acuerdo para la Creación del Instituto Interamericano para la Investigación del Cambio Global

The United States of America recommends that the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) invite the international NGO Future Earth to become an Associate under Article XI of its Agreement. • The United States of America recommends that the Conference of the Parties invite Future Earth to become an Associate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), asserting that the organization meets the requirements of Article XI of the Agreement. This formal association is intended to provide a framework for identifying and implementing specific areas of cooperation, particularly scientific projects in the Americas.
• Future Earth is an international network NGO with a distributed secretariat including nodes, centers, and offices in Canada, Cyprus, Egypt, France, India, Japan, South Africa, Sweden, and the United States. Its mission is to accelerate global sustainability transformations through research and innovation.
• Future Earth and the IAI have an existing cooperative relationship, including a Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 7, 2017, to promote cooperation in providing scientific input to policy processes and developing transdisciplinary research capacities in the Americas to support the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
• Future Earth collaborates with the IAI through the Belmont Forum, where they have worked on the Cooperative Research Program on Food, Water and Energy in Urban Systems (SUGI/NEXUS) and are developing a joint action on Climate, Environment and Human Health.
• Prior to the recommendation for Future Earth, the Conference of the Parties had invited three other organizations to associate with the IAI: the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), the Tropical Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), and the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP).
