Decision XXV/25: Enhancing activity of IAI Member Country Representatives

This briefing document, prepared by the IAI Directorate and Chile, outlines efforts to enhance the activity of Member Country Representatives of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), focusing on meeting participation, project reporting, and the timely payment of financial contributions.

• The Conference of the Parties (CoP) has established a mandate to encourage country representatives to be proactive in attending IAI meetings, reporting on research project results within their respective countries, and ensuring that country contributions are paid on time.
• A committee was formed to analyze member country participation regarding meeting attendance, payment of contributions, and involvement in science projects, with the goal of creating a strategy to contact inactive countries. The committee members included Argentina, Canada, Chile (as Chair), and Paraguay, though Canada declined to continue its membership at CoP-24 in 2016.
• The IAI Directorate has held meetings with Brazil, Guatemala, Jamaica, and Paraguay to discuss the necessity of timely country contributions, and has planned further meetings with Bolivia, Cuba, Peru, and Venezuela.
• The IAI Directorate emphasizes that timely contributions to the Core budget are essential for maintaining the effective and uninterrupted operations of the Directorate.
