CORE BUDGET REQUEST FOR FISCAL YEAR 2014/2015 and PRELIMINARY REQUEST 2015-2017

This document presents the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) core budget request for the 2014/2015 fiscal year and preliminary projections for 2015-2017. It details the operational costs required to maintain the IAI Directorate, including scientific program monitoring, staff salaries, and the transition of operations to Montevideo.

• The proposed core budget for the 2014/2015 fiscal year is US$1,370,028, representing a 6% increase over the previous year's budget of US$1,296,714. This budget covers the full cost of operating in Montevideo and includes transition staff in Brazil for up to six months.
• Salaries and Benefits constitute the largest portion of the core budget, totaling US$977,702 for FY 2014/2015, which is 71% of the total core budget. This funding supports five international positions and 2.5 locally hired staff.
• The IAI is proposing an 8.9% increase in member country contributions for the 2014/2015 fiscal year to reach a total of US$1,400,000. The United States is the largest contributor, with a proposed contribution of US$831,000, representing 60.75% of the participation share.
• Major scientific activities for FY 2014/2015 include the management of the CRN III program (2012-2016) and the Collaborative Research in the Americas (SGP-CRA) program, which is scheduled to end by December 2014. The IAI also maintains observer status at the UNFCCC and participates in the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA).
• The IAI has transitioned its IT services to an outsourced model following the departure of the IT manager in April 2013, a move intended to improve security, connectivity, and system development.
