Plan de actividades del IAI Julio 2014 – Junio 2015

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) activity plan for July 2014 to June 2015 outlines a transition to a tripartite institutional structure, the monitoring of CRN3 projects, the conclusion of a MacArthur Foundation project on Andean biodiversity, and the IAI's leadership role in the Latin American network of Future Earth.

• The IAI is implementing a tripartite structure approved in June 2013. Host country agreements have been signed with Argentina and Uruguay, while a renewed agreement with Brazil is under review. Administrative operations and staff have moved to Montevideo, and the Director's office in Buenos Aires is expected to begin operations.
• Regarding research, all CRN3 projects have been implemented and will be monitored to analyze integrated science approaches. A project funded by the MacArthur Foundation concerning climate change impacts on tropical Andean biodiversity is ending in 2014, with final reports and dissemination activities planned for the end of that year.
• The IAI has been selected as the leading institution for the Latin American network of Future Earth, evolving from collaboration and co-financing agreements with CONICET (Argentina), FAPESP (São Paulo), and CONACYT (Mexico).
• Capacity development activities include a training event on modeling strategies and decision-support tools for complex socio-ecological systems scheduled for August 18-22, 2014, in Panama City. Five seed grants are currently ongoing, with four additional grants expected from the Panama event.
• The Executive Directorate is involved with the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) of the UNFCCC. Two events are planned for the UNFCCC CoP in Lima: one on environmental monitoring and another with UNESCO on global change adaptation and mitigation governance.
