• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is an intergovernmental organization serving 19 member states in the Americas, founded 30 years ago to pursue scientific excellence, international cooperation, and the open exchange of scientific information for global change to achieve "unas Américas sostenibles".
• The IAI employs a transdisciplinary approach, bringing together natural and social scientists, policymakers, the private sector, and civil society to create solutions for global change. Its operational methods include supporting multinational research projects, providing science-policy interface training, and creating communities of practice.
• The IAI manages several specialized programs, including a health-climate-environment nexus initiative in Latin America and the Caribbean that provides seed funding for projects such as a South American data portal and energy-efficient building cooling. Additionally, it partners with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and the Belmont Forum to develop a global funding call regarding the Amazon and tropical forests.
• The Science, Technology, and Policy (STeP) fellows program, part of the IAI's Center for Scientific Diplomacy, provides capacity development for early-career researchers from government and private sectors. Since 2020, the program has included 47 fellows from 11 countries to improve their ability to navigate the science-policy interface.
