The IAI Executive Council approved reports on increasing country engagement and the analysis of ad hoc committees, while deferring decisions on the composition of the Financial and Administrative Working Group and the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedures. The council also confirmed the United States as the host for the 17th Executive Council and 10th COP meetings in June 2003, and accepted Costa Rica's offer to host the 18th meeting in late 2003.

• The Executive Council approved the final report from the Working Group to Increase Country Engagement with the IAI and directed the Executive Director to implement its recommendations.
• The Executive Council approved a report titled 'An Analysis of IAI ad hoc Comittees', submitted by US delegate Dr. Paul Filmer, which suggests dissolving several working groups and committees.
• The United States will host the 17th Executive Council meeting and the 10th COP meeting in Boulder, Colorado, on June 2-3 and 5-6, 2003, with a Scientific Forum on June 4.
• Costa Rica's offer to host the 18th Executive Council meeting in November or December 2003 was accepted, provided no member country that has not previously hosted a meeting makes an offer.
