This briefing outlines the decisions and actions taken during the 41st Meeting of the Executive Council (CE) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Santiago, Chile, on June 14, 2016.

• The Executive Council (CE) established commissions to recommend candidates for the SAC (comprising Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Chile) and the SPAC (comprising Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, and the USA), with reports to be presented to the Conference of Parties (CoP).
• The CE addressed the leadership of the IAI, deciding that the search for the Executive Director had been interrupted due to procedural errors. The CE proposed that the CoP review the IAI Creation Agreement to extend the Executive Director's term from three years to four years, renewable once.
• Financial and operational decisions were made, including the acceptance of the 2016-2017 Operating Budget and the decision to keep country contributions unchanged for 2016-2017, both pending CoP approval. Additionally, the CE requested assistance from Brazil to officially close the IAI Executive Directorate in Brazil.
