The sixteenth meeting of the IAI Executive Council resulted in the approval of the 2002 audit report, the final report of the Working Group to Increase Country Commitment, and a report recommending the dissolution of several ad hoc committees. The Council also requested a formal definition of the Board's functions and a proposal to reduce the frequency of EC and Conference of Parties (CoP) meetings. Future meetings were scheduled for June 2003 in Boulder, Colorado, and late 2003 in Costa Rica.

• The Executive Council (EC) approved the Auditors' Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2002, and decided to submit it to the next Conference of Parties (CoP) meeting.
• The EC approved the final report from the Working Group to Increase Country Commitment and instructed the IAI Executive Director to implement its recommendations, incorporating suggestions from the meeting.
• A report titled "An Analysis of IAI ad hoc Comittees," presented by the US delegate Dr. Paul Filmer, was approved, which suggests the dissolution of various committees and working groups.
• The EC requested the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedures to develop a proposal to decrease the number of meetings held by the EC and the CoP.
• The United States will host the 17th EC meeting and 10th CoP meeting in Boulder, Colorado, on June 2-3 and 5-6, 2003, respectively, with a Scientific Forum on June 4. Costa Rica offered to host the 18th EC meeting in November or December 2003.
