Actualizaciones del Plan Estratégico del IAI

This report, prepared by the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), proposes updates to the IAI Strategic Plan for the 2024-2030 period. The plan is structured around three main themes: meeting the needs of member parties regarding global environmental change, developing science for sustainability in the Americas, and ensuring the organizational sustainability of the IAI.

• The IAI Strategic Plan covers a long-term period from 2019 to 2044, with specific action frameworks designed for three to six years to align with the executive director's term and evolving party needs. The current proposed actions target the 2024-2030 period.
• Under Theme I, the IAI aims to lead regional scientific cooperation by promoting transdisciplinary research through grants and funding calls every two years, and by implementing a regional training program via the Transdisciplinary Academy.
• The IAI plans to enhance the capacity of member parties to use scientific information through several initiatives: establishing a repository of evaluations from intergovernmental scientific panels by 2025, creating a database of IAI-funded publications by 2024, and developing a digital infrastructure for open data by 2026.
• Theme II focuses on transdisciplinary research regarding specific environmental nexuses in the Americas. Key targets include funding five Belmont Forum Collaborative Research Actions on climate, environment, and health in 2024, launching a call for Tropical Forests in 2024 with funding in 2025, and launching a call for oceans, coasts, and islands in 2025 with funding in 2026.
• To ensure organizational sustainability (Theme III), the IAI intends to launch a new website by the end of 2024 and establish an advisory committee for Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in 2025.
• The IAI seeks to expand its regional presence by establishing a physical office in Central America and the Caribbean in 2025 and exploring links with regional organizations such as SICA and CARICOM.
