Plan de trabajo 2024–2025 del Comité de Ciencia y Datos Abiertos

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) has developed a 2024–2025 work plan for its Science and Open Data Committee. The plan focuses on updating the IAI's open data policy, improving the accessibility and usability of its data platforms, and supporting regional and global assessment processes for IAI partners and member states.

• The IAI aims to update its Open Data Policy through a participatory process involving IAI staff, advisory committee members, and representatives of IAI Parties and partners to adapt technical and administrative components to current contexts.
• The IAI is working to establish best practices and training materials, such as manuals and webinars, to ensure that projects receiving IAI funding comply with the requirement to share research data and scientific publications.
• The IAI plans to redesign its scientific publications and reports database, which contains over 600 articles and reports from 1997 to 2024, to improve visualization and usability for its multilingual community.
• The IAI is evaluating the creation of a new repository and search engine specifically for policy briefs and synthetic assessments to meet the needs of decision-makers who require more integrated information than researchers.
• The IAI is reviewing its use of the Harvard Dataverse, where 23 research databases were deposited between 2019 and 2022 across four themes: Ecosystems, biodiversity and land use; Climate variability in the Americas; Atmospheric, oceanic and inland water processes; and Human dimensions and applications.
• The IAI is supporting United Nations common country analyses by producing synthesis documents on critical variables for Sustainable Development Goals in Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Uruguay.
• The IAI is providing support to global and regional initiatives, including compiling literature for the IPCC assessment on climate change and cities, identifying research gaps for the Belmont Forum's Collaborative Research Action on Oceans, Coasts and Islands, and providing data capabilities for the LACI pilot program in the Plata Basin.
