Informe a la Conferencia de las Partes

The June 2017 report from the IAI's Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) details its activities, including the proposal for two 25th-anniversary publications, participation in the SBSTA Research Dialogue in Germany and a professional development seminar in the Dominican Republic, and its role in selecting a new IAI Director. The SAC also recommended diversifying its membership to include more social scientists and better geographic representation across the Americas.

• The SAC proposed two publications to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the IAI: a small book of approximately 40 pages aimed at the general public focusing on the IAI's impact on various countries and social actors, and a special edition of the Journal Environmental Management containing peer-reviewed scientific articles on topics such as interdisciplinarity and science-policy integration. Progress on these initiatives was halted due to a change in the IAI director.
• The SAC president and IAI Program Director Ione Anderson attended the eighth SBSTA Research Dialogue on May 19, 2016, in Bonn, Germany, as part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change mid-year conferences. During this event, Edwin Castellanos presented a poster regarding the combination of local and scientific knowledge to increase the adaptive capacity of farmers to global changes.
• The SAC participated in a Professional Development Seminar from November 28 to December 2, 2016, in the Dominican Republic, focused on "Transdisciplinary Approaches to integrate science and policy for sustainability." Participants included researchers and professionals from the Americas, some of whom were scheduled for a second part of the training in Canada in October 2017.
• The SAC recommended that the CoP expand the membership of the committee by increasing the representation of social sciences and broadening geographic representation. Specifically, the SAC identified the Caribbean and Central America as under-represented areas, and suggested more representation from North America and northern South America.
