Parties' Nominations for SAC membership

A statement from the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) requesting nominations from Parties to fill vacancies in the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) ahead of the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties in June 2022.

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is seeking nominations to replace two members of the Science Advisory Committee (SAC) whose terms expire in June 2022. These vacancies are to be filled during the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties, scheduled for 14 to 15 June 2022.
• For the SAC, the institute identifies North America, Central America, and the Caribbean as underrepresented geographic regions. Desired expertise to complement current membership includes energy security, renewable energy sources, green technologies, economics, agriculture, soils and carbon sequestration, and informatics including big data and artificial intelligence.
• The IAI is also seeking a nomination to replace one member of the Science-Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) by June 2022. The SPAC identifies Central America and the Southern Cone as underrepresented regions and seeks expertise in areas such as food security, poverty alleviation and inequality, economics, and education.
• Both committees emphasize that nominees should not act as national representatives but as representatives of their science or expertise. The IAI explicitly welcomes nominations from historically underrepresented groups, including women, youth, people with disabilities, the rural and urban poor, and Indigenous Peoples.
