Approved 14th Meeting of the IAI Executive Council (CE)

This briefing documents the approved actions and decisions from the first day of the 14th Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Executive Council (EC), held on November 26, 2001, in Havana, Cuba.

• The Executive Council (EC) modified the agenda for its 14th meeting to postpone the election of the 10th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) member to the February 2002 Conference of Parties (CoP) meeting in Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil, and to add a presentation on "New Initiatives" on November 27, 2001.
• The CoP is scheduled to fill two SAC vacancies in February: the tenth member position and a vacancy created by the departure of Dr. John Robinson. For the latter, the SAC must provide a list of two to four candidates to the IAI Directorate by January 31, 2002.
• The EC has mandated the creation or revision of several policy documents to be finalized at the February 2002 meeting in Brazil, including "Suspension and Termination Procedures for IAI Projects", guidelines on increasing country commitments to the IAI (ICC), procedures for handling delays in voluntary contributions, and rules regarding the use of IAI funds for delegate travel to EC and CoP meetings.
• The IAI Directorate was requested to produce country-specific reports detailing the IAI's investments relative to each member country's contributions, as well as the practical scientific results from IAI-supported projects, to be used during country visits.
• The EC Chair announced that the IAI Director Selection Committee would meet on November 27 to review the CVs of three candidates.
