This report from the Executive Directorate of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) provides an analysis of institutional, programmatic, and educational activities conducted between August 1 and October 31, 2001. • The IAI/University of Miami Summer Institute, funded by an NSF grant for three years, aimed to foster collaboration between natural and social scientists. Over three years, the institute saw 265 applicants and 62 participants from various countries. The program was deemed successful, with two PESCA projects originating from the first Summer Institute.
• Between 1995 and October 31, 2001, the IAI provided partial or total funding for the training of numerous students across different programs. This includes 92 students (BSc, MSc, PhD) under the Initial Scientific Program, 123 students (BSc, MSc, PhD, Post-doc) under the Cooperative Research Networks, and 250 MSc/PhD students under the IAI/UNDP/GEF/WMO project.
• Institutional updates include the ratification of the IAI Agreement by the Government of Bolivia on July 14, 2001, and the appointment of Dr. Carlos Castaño Uribe as the new representative for Colombia on August 21, 2001. Additionally, the report notes the death of Ecuador's representative, Dr. Fernando Ortiz Crespo, in September 2001.
