Empowering schools and communities through the REIPPPP

This case study details how CPV Power Plant No.1 (RF) (Pty) Ltd installed 20kW solar PV systems at Touwsrivier and Steenvliet Primary Schools under the REIPPPP framework. The project aims to reduce school electricity costs by R5,000 monthly per school and offset under 700 tons of CO2, while highlighting the importance of socio-economic development in upcoming REIPPPP procurement rounds.

• The Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) mandates that approved projects invest at least 1% of total project revenue into socio-economic development programmes for communities located within a 50km radius of the project site.
• CPV Power Plant No.1 (RF) (Pty) Ltd and the IPP funded the installation of two 20kW solar PV systems for Steenvliet Primary School and Touwsrivier Primary School. This initiative is expected to save each school R5,000 per month in electricity bills, totaling approximately R1.2 million per school over a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), and offset less than 700 tons of CO2 emissions across both schools.
