Promoting an African voice for the Taskforce on Nature-Related Disclosures (TNFD) and nature-related financial risk management

FSD Africa is implementing a program to promote the adoption of the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) across Africa, focusing on adapting the global framework to local contexts. The initiative includes capacity building, the creation of the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA), and strategic outreach to G20 and sovereign stakeholders. A key partnership with FirstRand has involved piloting the TNFD framework through nature-risk assessments in the agricultural and extractive industries and evaluating organizational readiness for disclosure.

• FSD Africa's program has delivered significant capacity building through 152 TNFD piloting sessions training approximately 600 people, including 10 C-suite or board-level executives, alongside 21 regulatory road mapping sessions and 7 webinars.
• The initiative is targeting specific countries to facilitate a regional rollout of the TNFD framework and secure G20 support, specifically focusing on South Africa, Zambia, Kenya, Mauritius, and Ghana.
• A partnership with FirstRand involved two pilots: one conducting nature-risk assessments and stress testing for the extractive and agricultural industries, and another assessing FirstRand's operational readiness to implement the beta TNFD framework.
• FSD Africa has established the African Natural Capital Alliance (ANCA) as a vehicle to advocate for long-term policy and regulatory engagement with nature and to integrate natural capital into sustainable development discourse.
