Strengthening Climate Resilience and Adaptation through Financial Services: Research for CGAP’s Climate Resilience Project

CGAP and FSD Africa are collaborating to create a conceptual framework and research methodology to examine the nexus between climate and financial inclusion. The project aims to provide guidance to financial inclusion stakeholders on using financial services to reduce the impact of climate risks for vulnerable populations. This framework is currently being tested in Nigeria, with plans for CGAP to extend the research to at least one additional country. Current progress includes the development of a draft conceptual framework and the hiring of a research firm.

• The project aims to provide guidance to financial inclusion stakeholders on how financial services can assist vulnerable people in reducing the impact of and adapting to specific climate risks.
• FSD Africa is supporting the development of a conceptual framework and research methodology to analyze the relationship between climate and financial inclusion, which is being tested in Nigeria.
• Current project milestones include the creation of a draft conceptual framework that has been workshopped with stakeholders and the appointment of a research firm to lead the design process.
