Developing Coaching Cultures for Business Impact: Jubilee Insurance and CBA

This document introduces a project by Financial Sector Deepening Africa and Creative Metier to improve financial inclusion in sub-Saharan Africa by enhancing leadership capacity through executive coaching. It notes that while the region's financial sector has grown rapidly, formal financial account ownership remained low at 34% as of 2014.

• A late 2015 Bloomberg report indicates that sub-Saharan Africa was the world's fastest growing region over the previous ten years, with a gross domestic product of 51%. Within this region, the financial industry in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana, Zambia, Ghana, and Malawi grew 11% faster than other emerging markets.
• As of 2014, only 34% of adults aged 15 and older in sub-Saharan Africa possessed an account at a formal financial institution, making the improvement of access to financial services essential for the region's economic potential.
• Since 2013, Financial Sector Deepening Africa and Creative Metier have worked on a project to increase the internal capacity of sub-Saharan financial institutions to aid financial inclusion. A primary constraint identified is the need to develop purposeful leadership among senior and middle management, for whom executive coaching is viewed as a critical tool for business performance impact.
