Friends of the Earth International provides a template letter for organizations to urge embassies to pressure the Brazilian government to investigate the murders of activist Bruno Araújo Pereira and journalist Dom Phillips in the Vale do Javari indigenous territory. The document highlights the high risk faced by human rights and territorial defenders in Latin America and the Caribbean, specifically citing threats against the Union of Indigenous Organizations of Vale do Javari (UNIVAJA). It calls for the identification of the perpetrators, punishment for those invading indigenous territories, and the guarantee of territorial rights and self-determination for Indigenous peoples in Brazil.

• The document reports the disappearance and murder on June 5 of Brazilian indigenous activist Bruno Araújo Pereira and British journalist Dom Phillips in the Vale do Javari indigenous territory, Amazonas state, Brazil, while they were working with the Union of Indigenous Organizations of Vale do Javari (UNIVAJA).
• The region of Latin America and the Caribbean is identified as a high-risk area for those defending human rights and protecting territories, noting a history of tension in the Vale do Javari area including the 2019 murder of indigenist Maxciel Pereira dos Santos.
• The letter demands three urgent actions from Brazilian authorities: continuing investigations to find the material and intellectual authors of the murders, transparently punishing those responsible for invading the Vale do Javari indigenous territory, and guaranteeing the territorial rights and self-determination of Indigenous peoples in Brazil.
