UN Food Systems summit a sham

Friends of the Earth International and over 500 other organisations are boycotting the UN Food Systems Summit (UNFSS), describing it as a "thinly veiled attempt" by corporations and philanthro-capitalists to dominate food governance. The group argues that the UNFSS promotes "failed and unjust corporate proprietary technologies" and "Nature Positive Food" narratives to allow corporations to continue destructive activities through offsets. In response, they are organising a "Peoples Counter Summit" to advocate for agroecology, food sovereignty, binding corporate regulations, and the protection of the Right to Food.

• The UN Food Systems Summit is characterised as an undemocratic and non-transparent process that prioritises the interests of corporations, the World Economic Forum, and the Gates Foundation over the knowledge and participation of small-scale food producers and affected communities.
• The UNFSS is accused of promoting corporate proprietary technologies, including biotechnology and gene editing, and using "Nature Positive Food" and "nature based solutions" as a means to financialise territories and offset corporate environmental destruction rather than adopting agroecology.
• A genuine transformation of food systems requires shifting public funding toward agroecology, implementing binding regulations to curb corporate power, ending the use of agrotoxics, and upholding the Right to Food.
