Condemnation of murder of Palestinian farmer Suleiman Hammad

Friends of the Earth International issued a statement condemning the murder of 85-year-old Palestinian farmer Suleiman Hammad, who was killed by an Israeli settler on February 8, 2017, near Al-Khader Village.

• On February 8, 2017, Suleiman Hammad, an 85-year-old Palestinian farmer and member of La Vía Campesina, was killed after being run over by an Israeli settler while walking to his land near Al-Khader Village, south of Bethlehem.
• Al Khader village is heavily impacted by Israeli control and infrastructure; Area C, under full Israeli control, makes up 85.5% of the village area, and an apartheid wall extending 4.35km isolates 562 hectares (5620 dunums) of territory, much of which is agricultural, forested, or open land used for income by local families.
• Friends of the Earth International asserts that since the 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, Israel has spent 50 years confiscating land for settlements, controlling water resources, and violating the human rights of Palestinians.
