In solidarity with Black Lives Matter

Friends of the Earth President Erich Pica issued a statement condemning recent violence in Dallas, Baton Rouge, and Falcon Heights, and affirming the organization's support for the Black Lives Matter movement. The organization pledges to reassess its activism to better address systemic racial oppression and calls on other environmental organizations to prioritize racial and social justice as part of the pursuit of a healthy and just world.

• Friends of the Earth views the Black Lives Matter movement as a critical force for challenging racial injustice and pervasive inequality in the United States, arguing that violence against police should not be used to delegitimize the movement's goal of ending the unjust treatment of Black people by police.
• The organization commits to reassessing its activism regarding broken economic, justice, and electoral systems that oppress people based on skin color, and pledges to engage in more meaningful conversations on racial justice to better ally with movements for social and environmental justice.
