Key insights
- General public awareness of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) is low, with 57% of registered voters reporting they have heard either "a little" or "nothing at all" about the law. However, once provided with a description of the IRA, 68% of registered voters express support.
- Certain demographic groups are both less familiar with the IRA and highly supportive of it after being informed. These include Black Americans (78% support), Gen Z/Millennials (78% support), women (75% support), and individuals earning less than $50,000 annually (72% support).
- Political affiliation strongly influences both awareness and support. Liberal Democrats (49%) and conservative Republicans (55%) are the most aware of the IRA. After reading a description, support is highest among liberal Democrats (97%) and moderate/conservative Democrats (91%), while conservative Republicans are the least supportive at 23%.
- The IRA is projected by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget to reduce U.S. carbon pollution by approximately 40% by 2030 relative to 2005 levels, contributing to the Paris Climate Agreement target of at least a 43% reduction.
