CMS_Brief_2023_ENG

The Centro de Movilidad Sostenible (CMS) is a non-profit organization established in 2021, dedicated to the decarbonization of the transport sector in Latin America and the Caribbean. CMS provides technical expertise in public policy development, fleet electrification roadmaps, technology evaluations, and emission inventories to support the transition to clean transport technologies.

• CMS is a non-profit organization focused on promoting the decarbonization of the transport sector within the Latin America and Caribbean (LATAM) region, currently executing or assisting projects in 15 countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.
• The organization offers a range of technical services including the design of roadmaps for the electrification of machinery and transport fleets, the development of energy consumption baselines and emission inventories for the transport sector, and the design of business models and economic evaluations such as Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA).
• CMS hosts the Investment and Support Platform for LATAM as part of the GEF 7 Global Electric Mobility Programme, which has an approved budget exceeding $50 million USD and involves 27 countries aiming to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) uptake through pilot programs.
• Through the ZEBRA (Zero Emission Bus Rapid Accelerator) program, CMS serves as the Chile lead and a regional knowledge partner to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission buses in cities such as Santiago de Chile, Mexico City, Medellín, and Sao Paolo.
• Under the Drive Electric campaign, CMS supports the Chilean Ministry of Energy in implementing the National Electric Mobility Strategy and designing fuel economy standards for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
• CMS's current research interests include the sustainability of battery supply chains, specifically lithium sourcing and nearshoring opportunities, as well as the environmental impacts of battery disposal, recycling, and second-life applications.
