- Private operators in Brazil exhibit the highest operational costs (USD 92.1 to 514.5 per ton) but also the highest revenue generation (USD 193 to 604 per ton), allowing them to maintain operating margins between 15% and 53%.
- Organic waste treatment provides significant co-benefits beyond methane reduction, including job creation, improved air and water quality, and the production of value-added products such as Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae for animal feed and organic fertilizers for urban agriculture.
- The report recommends a holistic approach to waste management that links it to health, environment, and climate goals, and advocates for the legal formalization of informal workers and community groups to ensure their access to financing and land use rights.
