Updated View on the Global Landscape of Climate Finance 2019

The Climate Policy Initiative provided updated estimates for global climate finance flows for 2017 and 2018, and a preliminary estimate for 2019, to inform the UNFCCC's fourth Biennial Assessment and Overview of Climate Finance Flows.

• Updated analysis shows that climate finance flows averaged USD 574 billion per year in 2017/18, with USD 608 billion in 2017 and USD 540 billion in 2018. These figures are slightly lower than the estimates reported in the 2019 Landscape due to adjustments from data providers.
• Climate finance flows in 2017/18 were 24% higher than the 2015/16 average, though the volume remained insufficient to address climate change and its impacts.
• A preliminary estimate for 2019 suggests climate finance flows between USD 608 billion and USD 622 billion, which would be a 6% to 8% increase over the 2017/18 average.
