Mapping the Landscape of Net-Zero Nature-Positive Finance: A Review of Definitions and Frameworks

This report provides a systematic review of definitions and frameworks for net-zero, nature-positive, and climate-nature finance, aiming to establish a shared knowledge base for integrated climate and nature finance approaches.

• The report analyzes literature published between 2007 and 2025 to identify gaps and areas of convergence in the definitions and applications of "net zero" and "nature positive" terms, which currently vary across financial frameworks, taxonomies, and policy commitments.
• The report serves as the initial research output for the Net-Zero Nature-Positive Accelerator Integrated Programme (NZNPA IP), a six-year, $100 million initiative launched in 2025 to align climate and nature action.
• The NZNPA IP is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF). Implementation is carried out by UNDP, FAO, UNIDO, and UNEP.
