Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility

The Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility (SAFF) is a specialized credit vehicle designed to increase the adoption of integrated crop-livestock-forest (ICLF) systems in Brazil to help meet national climate goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

• Brazil aims to implement five million hectares of integrated crop-livestock-forest (ICLF) systems by 2030 as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions. However, adoption is hindered by a lack of information and credit lines that are not well-adapted for implementation.
• The Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility (SAFF) is the only credit vehicle in Brazil focusing on ICLF practices and the only fund with a unique ICLF certification system for monitoring impact and providing credit scores. It utilizes a ten-year revolving credit facility with five credit lines covering forestry, livestock, equipment, soil recovery, and land management.
• The SAFF pilot targets 90,000 hectares in Brazil’s Center-South with an expected mobilization of USD 68 million and a carbon storage potential of 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide. At scale, the instrument could reach 500,000 hectares and USD 380 million, potentially expanding into the Northeast and the Amazon.
