The Landscape of REDD+ Aligned Finance in Côte d’Ivoire

This study analyzes public finance for sustainable land use in Côte d’Ivoire in 2015 to support the National REDD+ Strategy. It warns that the country could lose all forest cover by 2034 and suggests that greening agricultural finance could increase REDD+ aligned funding to FCFA 101 billion (USD 169 million).

• Côte d’Ivoire faces severe deforestation risks, with the potential to lose all forest cover by 2034 due to logging, mining, reliance on wood fuel, and agricultural expansion for rubber, oil palm, and cocoa.
• The Government of Côte d’Ivoire is developing a National REDD+ Strategy and Investment Plan to achieve forest cover goals and implement zero-deforestation agriculture.
• Greening existing agricultural finance from domestic and international sources could increase REDD+ aligned finance to FCFA 101 billion (USD 169 million), which is more than five times the current level.
