Green Bond Fact Sheet

This fact sheet describes a CAD 751 million green bond issuance by the Mobilinx Hurontario General Partnership to finance the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in Ontario, Canada.

• The Mobilinx Hurontario General Partnership issued CAD 751 million (USD 572 million) in senior secured project finance on October 21, 2019, with a maturity date of May 31, 2054 and a tenor of 35 years.
• Proceeds are allocated to the Hurontario LRT concession project, consisting of 92.4% for a new 18km double-track light rail transit system and 7.6% for LEED (silver) certified operations, maintenance, and storage facility (OMSF) buildings.
• The project is a public-private partnership (PPP) where Mobilinx—owned by John Laing Investment (35%), Salini-Impregilo (21%), Hitachi Rail (20%), Astaldi Canada Enterprise (14%), Amico Project Holdings (5%), and Transdev North America (5%)—holds a 35-year availability-based concession from Metrolinx and Ontario Infrastructure and Lands Corp.
• While neither Mobilinx nor Metrolinx have committed to ongoing impact reporting, Metrolinx intends to conduct a one-time GHG emissions analysis approximately three years after construction ends, and the Province of Ontario expects to report annual impact statistics.
• The issuance received a green bond rating of E1/87 from S&P, which noted that this was its first green evaluation of a public-private partnership.
