The report identifies hazardous substances, including phthalates, flame retardants, and PFAS, in carpets from major EU manufacturers, arguing that current regulations and voluntary certifications are insufficient to protect consumers and enable safe recycling.

• Testing of 15 carpet samples from seven of Europe's largest manufacturers revealed the presence of several chemical groups, including phthalates, flame retardants, and per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), as well as evidence of antimicrobial agents, isocyanates, nonylphenol, and bisphenol A (BPA).
