Promotion of Access to information Act, 2000 » Description Submitted in terms of section 15 (1)

This document is a formal notice published in the Government Gazette of South Africa on 7 December 2018. It provides a detailed description of records automatically available from the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) in accordance with Section 15(1) of the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000.

• The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) maintains a variety of records available for inspection, some of which are accessible via the departmental website at www.daff.gov.za.
• Specific agricultural records are available for inspection or copying upon payment of prescribed fees, including registers and documents related to the Plant Breeders' Rights Act, 1976 and the Plant Improvement Act, 1976.
• Records concerning Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) are available, including permit application forms, executive council minutes, a list of GMO events approved in South Africa, and policies on GMO consignment in transit and permit extensions.
• The department provides free access to several high-level reports and policies, such as the Annual Report of DAFF, policies for managing locust and Red Billed Quelea outbreaks, and the State of the Forests (SOF) report.
• Natural agricultural resource data is available via request forms, covering grazing capacity (2018), land capability (2018), gully erosion (2011), and field crop boundaries (2017).
• Extensive forestry documentation is available, including the White paper on Sustainable Forest Development in SA, the Woodland Strategy Framework (June 2005), the Urban Greening Strategy (2005), and lists of protected tree species under the National Forests Act, 1998.
• Fisheries management records are accessible through various Chief Directorates, including records of decision for fishing rights allocation, summaries of Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and Total Allowable Effort (TAE) per sector, and scientific papers.
