• Eskom submitted an application for exemption from compliance with the Minimum Emission Standards under Section 59(1) (A) of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004, but subsequently withdrew the application after the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment informed Eskom's CEO, Mr. André de Ruyter, that the exemption would not be issued.
• A meeting regarding Eskom's exemption application took place on 13 November 2020, which was chaired by Minister Pravin Gordhan in his capacity as the Minister responsible for Public Enterprises.
