REQUEST FOR REASONS: NERSA ELECTRICITY GENERATION LICENCE FOR KARPOWERSHIP RICHARD’S BAY, NGQURA AND SALDANHA

The Centre for Environmental Rights, representing groundWork, has requested that the National Energy Regulator SA (NERSA) release the approval documents, reasons, charge rates, and power purchase agreements related to the electricity generation licences granted on 21 September 2021 for Karpowership projects in Richard's Bay, Ngqura, and Saldanha.

• On 21 September 2021, the National Energy Regulator SA (NERSA) granted electricity generation licences for three Karpowership projects. During this meeting, NERSA adopted several documents for approval, including the generation licence approvals, the reasons for the decision to grant the licences, charge rates, power purchase agreements, and a two-page summary of these items.
• The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER), representing groundWork (an objector to the licence applications), has requested that NERSA provide the aforementioned approval documents for all three Karpowership projects to them and the public by 30 September 2021.
